How to Write a Novel COURSE OUTLINE
Module 1– Introduction to writing
We identify what stops us from writing and where to get ideas from. We also cover basic principles of writing. Types of genre, and mind mapping.
Module 2 – Character profiling and development
How do you bring characters to life? How much description does the reader need? Why being a people watcher can be beneficial to developing your character? You will create your main character.
Module 3 – Outlining your manuscript
Outlining your manuscript is key. You will learn to outline every aspect of your manuscript.
Module 4 – Hook your reader
You will learn how to hook your reader from the first line, first sentence, and first chapter. You’ll learn about flashbacks and when to use them.
Module 5 – Story structure
You will learn the structure of the story by covering essential elements like story/character arcs, POVs, plot outlines, and the story goal.
Module 6 – Creative writing
You will incorporate all the techniques from the previous workshops and kick-start your creative flow using writing prompts. We discuss ways of making money from your writing.
Module 7 – From short story to novel
By using specific techniques, you will learn how to take a 1000-word short story and layer and grow the content to a much larger word count. We discuss feedback and the importance of building your team of experts, like editors, illustrators, agent or publishers.
Module 8 – It’s all about the book
This workshop is all about the outside of the book. The title, price, cover, author bio and book blurb. We also look at the marketing plan.
